This striking creature is a native of the Southwest US and Northern Mexico and was photographed in Big Ben National Park, Texas. Horse Lubbers measure up to 2.5 inches/6.5 cm and feed on desert plants and scrubs. They are able to absorb the toxins in some plants making them undesirable to predators. Their striking colours and patterns signal "Danger" to potential enemies. The Horse Lubber may emit a rather unpleasant smelling foam when threatened.
