Blackjacket, Vespula consobrina
The Blackjacket is very similar to the Bald-faced Hornet which was bug of the month in December 2010 but is more black in colour and smaller. Despite its common name it is actually classified as Yellowjacket - a group of social wasps which generally nest underground. The Blackjacket is found in the coniferous forests across Canada and parts of the northern United States.
