The Spotted Sandpiper has spots only during the summer. It is often found in freshwater and has a range that covers most of North America, from sea level to alpine zones, depending on the season. It is one of the smaller sandpipers, only about 7.5 in/15 cm long with a wingspan of 13 in/33 cm.
