Least Sandpiper, Calidris minutilla
Measuring only 6 in/15 cm, the Least Sandpiper is the smallest of North American shorebirds. It spends its summer in the tundra and winters along the mild west coast and in the gulf states. It is happy feeding on insects or digging for crustaceans, mollusks and marine worms in the bogs, marshes, coastal areas and pools that it loves.
