Hooded Merganser, Lophodytes cucullatus
Mergansers are sometimes called "Fish Duck" because most of their diet consists of fish which they can catch with their long bills which are serrated enabling them to grasp and hold their prey. The Hooded Merganser is found across southern Canada and into the United States. Male "Hoodies" flare up their white head crests when threatened or trying to impress females.
