Mourning Dove
Mourning Dove, Zenaida macroura
The Mourning Dove gets its common name from the soothing, haunting and sometimes mournful coos it makes as it perches calmly watching the world go by. This is a resident of open areas across most of North America, south of the boreal forest. Males and females are similar in appearance although young birds are much darker than adults.
