The California Quail lives in a large variety of habitats. Its range goes from part of southern BC, south to California and east to parts of Idaho. The male (shown here) has a black face with white brows and shin stripes, a grey chest and patterned belly.
At certain times of the year, families will group together and forage in bushes and scrubby areas. The groups (called a covey or bevy) will disperse in the spring. |
