European Robin, Erithacus rubecula
With its characteristic orange-red breast and face, the European Robin is a delightful, easily recognized bird of the Old World. Its range extends across Europe, into Northern Africa and into western Asia. It is a generally shy bird. It feeds on insects, seeds, grubs and spiders. It is not related to the much larger American Robin.

Eileen from Scotland sent in this wonderful photograph for the bird of the month. This is the first bird of the month from outside North America. Many thanks Eileen!
