Canada Jay, Perisoreus canadensis
Canada Jay, Perisoreus canadensis
The Canada or Gray Jay, is a bold, curious and friendly bird, familiar to campers and picnickers in the Rockies and across Canada. Also known as "camp robbers", Gray Jays appear unexpectedly out of conifer forests attracted to foreign sounds and potential feeding chances. Some people call these birds "Whiskey Jacks" a name derived from the Algonquin name for the bird: wiskedjack.

Don't get this fun bird confused with the much larger Clark's
Nutcracker which is clearly distinguished by its heavy bill.
