February 2008 - Indian Plum
|
Indian Plum, Oemleria cerasiformis
Indian Plum, Oemleria cerasiformis
Indian Plum is one of the first plants on the
west coast of North America to leaf out and flower. A member of the Rose Family, it grows as a shrub to a small tree. It produces blue-black cherry-like fruit which is very bitter.

The early flowering of the Indian Plum is a sure sign that winter is on its way out and Spring's around the corner - at least on the west coast!
