Golden Buprestid, Buprestis aurulenta

This spectacular insect, with its brilliant metallic colour, is a beetle belonging to the family Buprestidae, also known as Jewel Beetles because of their spectacular colours. Because they bore into wood, they are sometimes called Metallic Wood-boring Beetles. This family of beetles is one of the largest beetles families with some 15,000 species around the world.
