August 2010 - Meliscaeva cinctella

Meliscaeva cinctella is a Hover or Garden Fly. At first glance it has some of the markings of a wasp, but is unrelated, has only two wings and is harmless.

Hover Flies are important pollinators and are often seen hovering from flower to flower.
