An At-A-Glance Guide to Beetles |
| |
Beetles are a diverse group of animals; there are over 24,000 different species in North America alone and 300,000 around the world. They are found just about everywhere except the poles and oceans, living under rocks and beneath bark, on vegetation, on the ground and in the ground. They belong to the order Coleoptera and most have a front pair of wings which are hardened and protect the body. In most species there is a second pair of wings which are used for flying.
