Triangle Nest Box
In this nest box project you can use all kinds of odds and ends pieces of wood, bark or driftwood. We started off with a piece of 6 inch fencing board which is used for the back, front and base.

Marking fence board
Drawing cutting lines
The front and back are 10 inches long by the width of the board. Measure the 10 inch length along the bottom and make a mark 5 inches along the top.
Draw lines from the bottom marks to the top one as shown above. Cut one piece out and use is as a template to draw and cut out the second place.

Hole drilled
The base
In one of the triangle pieces drill a 1 1/4 inch hole in the centre and 2 inches down.
Cut a piece of the board 10 inches long for the base.
Drill two 1/8 inch holes along each side.
|
Attaching sides to base
Securing things
Attach the base to the back and front sections with 1.5 inch screws using the holes you drilled.
When the base is securely attached the nest box should be ready for its roof.
|
Attaching roof
You can use almost anything for the roof such as pieces of bark, wood shingles or plywood. Measure out the wood so that has a little overhang on the front section, but flush at the back. Nail the wood onto the front and back sections.
|
Bark on the top
Bark on the front
A piece of bark that is cut to the width of the roof can be nailed to the ridge cap of the roof.
More decorative bark can be added to the front This will also help the birds enter the nest box.

Batten added on the back
A small batten, 3 inches x .5 inch makes a good hanger. Attach it to the back, making sure it's long enough to go above and below the nest box so you can attach it to a tree or post.

Finished nest box
Here's the finished nest box just waiting for someone to move in.
