Saving Berries for Winter
|
If you have access to a few berries in the fall, your bird visitors will be very thankful when winter arrives and such food is scarce.
|
Mountain Ash berries
These Mountain Ash berries, favourites of robins and waxwings, were collected in the fall and stored in the freezer. Having up a bunch in the winter when the trees are bare of berries can really help birds get through the trying times of winter.

American Robin
_
American Robins enjoy these Mountain Ash berries. After devouring them all off the trees in the fall, they now find and appreciate this small offering.

They will come back everyday once you put out a bunch or two.

Junco and berries __ Junco and berries
Hanging the berries in various places can provide some entertaining moments,
especially when the juncos try to reach them.
|
American Robin
If you're lucky, you'll also get some great photo opportunities such as when this beautiful American Robin perched for a moment.

American Robin
The Robins always seem to be the first to find the berries. If you can, place a few where you can see them from a window Hopefully, you will have a lot of pleasure watching the different birds close up.

Here a Varied Thrush has spotted a few that were hung up in a discarded Christmas tree.
