Early settlers in the area were amazed by the white dome features that are part of this diverse landscape. These ridges were called reefs and their colour reminded inhabitants of the whiteness of the Capitol building in Washington, DC, and so the area was named Capitol Reef. |

Only a small part of this National Park is easily accessible leaving the rest of it untouched and available only to the intrepid explorer.
