In the southwest Texas is a fascinating, mystical land of mountains and deserts. Big Bend National Park is a gem of a destination for the lucky adventurer.
Covering an area of over 1250 sq mi/3240 sq km it is bursting with a huge diversity of plants and animals as well as striking landforms.

The name of the park comes from the fact that it's nestled in a large bend in the murky Rio Grande, across from Mexico.
Big Bend is part of the Chihuahuan Desert and as such, has species not found in the other deserts of the US southwest.
