Killdeer, Charadrius vociferus
The Killdeer is a member of the plover family of birds, a large group of shorebirds which generally have short legs and bills and forage for food by picking for worms, invertebrates and insects. The is a common bird characterized by its brown and black wings and white belly and breast. To distract predators from its nest, the Killdeer will sometimes pretend it has a broken wing.
