Hooded Oriole, Icterus cucullatus
Hooded Oriole, Icterus cucullatus
The striking Hooded Oriole is found in the deserts of the US Southwest, down the Baja California of Mexico and along the Mexican coast of the Gulf of Mexico. They forage in trees and bushes feeding on insects and caterpillars, and sometimes hang upside down like a chickadee. The female lacks the strong yellow and black colourations, having more yellow-green and grey features.
