Northern Pintail, Ansas acuta
The Northern Pintail is an elegant dabbling duck. It is most recognized by its long, slender tail most evident in the male (above). The male has a chocolate-coloured head with a white stripe on the neck and white breast. Like many birds, the female (below) lacks some of the striking markings of the male and is mostly marbled-brown in colour. They both have gray bills. The male is 25 in/64 cm long and the female is a bit smaller.
