Gambel's Quail, Callipepla gambelii
The Gambel's Quail was named in honour of naturalist William Gambel who explored the Southwestern United States in the 19th century. This bird is a ground-dwelling inhabitant of the desert regions of the U.S. southwest. Its most recognizable feature is its top knot. It feeds on seed and parts of plants.
