Greater Yellowlegs, Tringa melanoleuca
The Greater Yellowlegs is a member of the Sandpiper family of birds. It is medium sized (14 in/36 cm) shorebird with long yellow legs. It breeds in marshes and boggy areas in a range that stretches from south-central Alaska, eastward across central Canada to the Maritime provinces. It spends its winters along the coasts from Virginia and Washington State, southward and along the Gulf Coast.
