August’s choice for the flower of the month is the American Globeflower. It is a very early flowering plant in alpine areas as it is present before the snows have gone. The American Globeflowers are often mixed in with Marsh Marigolds and subsequently missed. They have five petals compared to seven or eight on the marsh marigolds and are much broader and classy looking when in a small group. The plant flowers when only four or five inches high and then the stalks grow to a much higher height at over twelve inches. |
