Our subject is the Deer Fern, Blechnum spicant. This is the usual frond that is presant for most of the year. |

This is the reproductive frond that one can find in the fall. |

This is the underside of the reproductive frond showing the spores. |

Place the loupe on the subject. |
||

Now carfully place the camera over the loupe and focus on the subject. |
||

You will obviously get distracting black corners as you are taking an oblong image through a round object. |

Simply crop out the corners and you will have a close up of the spores. |
||

This can also we used to photograph mosses, lichens and liverworts, and many other subjects. |
