Using a Loupe

Our subject is the Deer Fern, Blechnum spicant. This is the usual frond that is presant for most of the year.

This is the reproductive frond that one can find in the fall.

This is the underside of the reproductive frond showing the spores.

Place the loupe on the subject.

Now carfully place the camera over the loupe and focus on the subject.

You will obviously get distracting black corners as you are taking an oblong image through a round object.

Simply crop out the corners and you will have a close up of the spores.

This can also we used to photograph mosses, lichens and liverworts, and many other subjects.

Just crop the images.
